Darren Aronofsky's 2006 film is an intelligent, beautiful vision. Littered with visual language, mind expanding concepts and a haunting soundtrack.
Drawing from Mayan myths, modern science and distant future existentialism; The Fountain prods our understanding of mortality and place in the universe. No mean feat considering the type of film coming out of mainstream Hollywood right now.
In a similar vein to his previous films (Pi and Requiem For A Dream) the outlook can be bleak, at times, but it leaves you pondering a higher meaning. One of optimism, discovery and adventure for future generations of Conquistadors.
