"This is how you show your love of an anime series. By dressing up in spandex. As a woman. And letting you chest hair fly. On TV. In Japan.

"Then he got some friends to do it with him in the 2.0 version (even better):

"For reference, here’s the open to the Cat’s Eye anime:

The previous post led me to this Schweppes ad, which I don't remember seeing before, but I do rather like. Schhhhhweet.

water balloooooons

Whoever it was that invented the 4k camera (slow motion camera working at 4000 frames per second instead of the usual 70-odd) needs to be congratulated. And hugged. And then richly rewarded.

Archie and Pulp

Chris's Invincible Super Blog has this version of Pulp's Common People set to a background of Jug-Head and Archie. Perfect.

In honor of St Paddy's day, here's a classic Muppet sketch -- a rendition of "Danny Boy," performed by Animal, the Swedish Chef, and Beaker on the high notes. I nearly wept. Link (via Making Light)

The Fountain

Darren Aronofsky's 2006 film is an intelligent, beautiful vision. Littered with visual language, mind expanding concepts and a haunting soundtrack.

Drawing from Mayan myths, modern science and distant future existentialism; The Fountain prods our understanding of mortality and place in the universe. No mean feat considering the type of film coming out of mainstream Hollywood right now.

In a similar vein to his previous films (Pi and Requiem For A Dream) the outlook can be bleak, at times, but it leaves you pondering a higher meaning. One of optimism, discovery and adventure for future generations of Conquistadors.

Mandelego

Nelson Mandela, originally uploaded by Dunechaser.
On Flickr I came across a character who calls himself Dunechaser. Aside from taking pictures of him and his pug, there's nothing he likes more than inventing Lego characters. As well as the X-Men and a series of Lord of the Rings characters, he and his buddies have also done Presidents of America, great philosophers (Bertrand Russell being a particular favourite), and authors (Ernest Hemingway anyone?). While he has yet to hit his stride recreating great figures of the Renaissance, this figure of Nelson Mandela totally rocks. If you have five minutes, take some time to look at the rest of his Lego here. Duplo and Playmobil will never again shine quite so bright.

Production ready in seven years, they say (call it 15-20). This is the 'morph concept', which can be worn as a bracelet, clean itself, you name it. It's being made with the help of brainiacs at Cambridge University. Wonder if they'll tie you in to an 18-month contract with O2 before you can get one...

Death To Smoochy is somewhat of an oddity. A box office disaster on it's US release, this has found a cult following on DVD.
